Carl Hiaasen was born and raised in Florida. Dennis Lehane grew up in Boston. Since his first novel, A Drink Before the War, won the Shamus Award, he has published thirteen more novels including Darkness, Take My Hand, The Given Day, Moonlight Mile, and Since We Fell. Lehane’s most recent novel, Small Mercies, is set in the anti-busing violence and racism of South Boston in 1974. His novels Live by Night, Mystic River, Gone, Baby, Gone, Shutter Island, and The Drop have all been adapted into films. He was a staff writer on the HBO series The Wire and has adapted and produced three Stephen King novels (Mr. Mercedes, End of Watch, and The Outsider) for television. In 2022, he wrote and produced the critically acclaimed limited series Black Bird for Apple TV+, which starred Taron Egerton, Paul Walter Hauser, and Ray Liotta. Lehane’s next project for Apple TV+ will be Smoke, which was loosely inspired by the true-crime podcast Firebug.
