The Rock Bottom Remainders

video to support The Book Industry Charitable Foundation

Support booksellers with the Rock Bottom Remainders!

Join the Rock Bottom Remainders in their support of booksellers! They are doing so with the  release of a music video to support Binc — the Book Industry Charitable Foundation. The pandemic has impacted bookstores and their staff and the Rock Bottom Remainders, who typically do benefit concerts to support literacy and book related causes want to support bookstores and booksellers.

The song is their version of “Stand by Me” by Ben E. King with lyrics adapted by Dave Barry and members of the band and guests participating in the video.

“The Remainders, like all authors, love independent bookstores and booksellers, and wanted to use our musical talents to help them. Unfortunately, we don’t have any musical talents. But we hope this video will help anyway.”
— Dave Barry

Founded in 1992, the Rock Bottom Remainders have raised over $2.5 Million for various literacy and book related causes.  The all author Rock band includes Stephen King, Amy Tan, Dave Barry, Mitch Albom, Scott Turow, Greg Iles, Ridley Pearson, Matt Groening, Roy Blount, Jr., James McBride, Alan Zweibel, Mary Karr and Sam Barry. Between them, they’ve published more than 200 titles, sold more than 350 million books, and been translated into more than 30 languages. Hailed by critics as having “one of the world’s highest ratios of noise to talent,” the Remainders have no music videos, no record contract, no Grammy® nominations—but do have thousands of hits on Google.

Donations can also be made directly to Binc. The first 50 donations of $750 or more get a limited edition lithograph of the band created by Pulitzer prize winning cartoonist David Horsey and signed by all members of the band.

Binc is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to assisting booksellers in need. The Binc Foundation grew out of a wish of bookstore employees to establish a fund to help their colleagues experiencing unexpected financial crises. Binc is dedicated to assisting bookstore employees across the United States in their greatest time of need.

“Binc is thrilled to be connected with such incredible authors and this legendary literary band.  We can’t begin to thank you all enough for choosing to help booksellers and bookstores through this unprecedented time by recording and sharing a new song with all your fans, the book industry, and the whole world. Since March 12th Binc has provided grants to over 2,100 individuals and stores with over $2.5M in emergency aid. The band’s support will allow Binc to help even more booksellers.”
